Just yesterday I happened to watch a movie called Pursuit of Happiness. It led me to tears, then led me to smiles, and then lastly to a place where I was wondering. All our lives we strive to be happy. WE THINK going to a reputed college for education would make us happy. We think falling in love would make us happy. We think being successful in our our lives would make us happy. But only if it were true. Is is that only after doing or getting the thing we want makes us happy ? I couldn't help but wonder, if all the things I want are given to me right now, can I be blissfully happy and possibly want nothing more in life ?
Most of our lives revolve around work, relationships and money, but we still look for something. Still seek the one thing which possibly makes our lives happy. Still think that after I get a certain thing I'll be happy. It's not wrong to want something. We all want it. But the problem with that is, we inevitably become a part of pursuit of unhappiness. Until we receive a desired thing we become miserable in the present trying to achieve it. We tend to doubt ourselves. We worry. Finally after all the struggles we get what we want and for a while we are satisfied and then we want another thing. And then another. We, as human nature always want, something more, struggle most of our lives to be happy.
Think about it. As a toddler we wanted a new toy. After hearing a lot of no's, throwing tantrums, begging our parents that we need it and after sturggling finally they cave in and bring it to us, we become overjoyed. We play with it wholeheartedly, but it lasts only for a while. And on the television we see another toy, more shinier and more money. Boom we start our sturggle of wanting it. Its not about being materialistic, but about human nature. All our lives we keep growing, keep wanting more things, but only forget that in the pursuit of happiness, we tend to be unhappy more.
I'm no diffrent than you. We all have our struggles, and our own blank pages to fill in our now-empty book called Life, but lately I've come to realise, it's our choice that matters. Its our choice to be happy. Its our choice to want something. It's our choice to pursue all the things we want.
In pursuit of happiness, try to be happy in the present too. Who knows at the end of all this, we finally get to say, in the pursuit of happiness, I found happiness in myself.
