At night when the stars light up my room, I sit by myself, talking to the moon.
Tonight is a very special night for me, and it's Kojagiri Pournima (Sharad Pournima as some might say). Ever since a child, year after year, we celebrate this day by sitting in the night flooded with the light of the full moon, drinking milk. Since moon is supposed to be closest to the earth on this day, the moon rays are said to have curative properties. The vessel containing the sweet is prepared and left in the moonlight to be consumed later.
According to Ayurveda, the `pitta' or acidity aggravates at the end of the monsoon season. This is the reason why cooling foods are recommended to neutralise the pitta and balance it. The consumption of cold milk and rice flakes is supposed to be a good remedy for pitta.
Coming back , I remember my mother would make me sit by the window, because the full moon could be seen only from there, with the delicious milk right in front me, but only after it's washed in the moonlight could I taste it. She used to tell me stories of Goddess Durga to distract me ofcourse ( I was a very agile child back then). I used to love sitting with my mother at night talking about mythological stories.
My love for the moon has never faded and never will.
I used to keep looking at the moon and admiring it's beauty. Now, when I look at the moon, its still the same but, something else happens too. I become vulnerable. I think about things, become sentimental, and after a while come to terms with my life. At peace. Somehow the moon brings out a different side of me, the part which I do not want to face at all, and then consoles me, making me think everything will be alright.
As I am writing this blog, its not just a blog, its a part of me, I implore you to sit with your loved ones, under the moonlight. Just as the moon doesn't ever steals the night, it always unveils the beauty of the dark, try to unveil yourself.
Love you to the moon and back.
